“Nova” has achieved quite a legendary status among MCU fans. Everyone loves the character, but there’s no concrete information on if he will even show up in the Marvel Studios line-up. However, it’s almost impossible for the Studio to not bring him in since he’s one of the most popular new-gen characters along with Ms. Marvel.

Official information from Disney and Marvel Studios regarding Nova is low. In fact, generally, official information regarding any Marvel Studios offering is low. So fans rely on established scoopers and insiders to know more about the upcoming projects. But in the case of “Nova,” multiple insiders are offering conflicting information about the upcoming project.

So let us chart these rumors and see what’s going on with “Nova.”

The Official Information On Nova

There isn’t much official information but here is all that we know. In March 2022, Production Weekly listed an “Untitled Marvel Space Project” in development at Marvel Studios. Later on, Deadline confirmed that it was the Nova project and that Sabir Pirzada, who also wrote Moon Knight, was on the writing team.

This is the only official information we have on the project. So now let us move on to the rumors and speculations.

What The Reputed Industry Insiders Are Saying

When Deadline announced the “Nova” project, many thought that it was going to be a TV show. But later on, it was speculated that it was going to become a one-hour Marvel Studios Special Presentation like “Werewolf At Night.” It was theorized that both Sam Alexander and Richard Rider were going to be in the project.

Lizzie Hill of “The Cosmic Circus” reported that it was definitely going to Disney+. But she wasn’t sure if it was going to be a Special Presentation series. Here’s what she said:

“Hearing that yes, Nova is still going to Disney+ although it may not be set in stone as a special or series at the moment. @MyCosmicCircle previously reported it as a special by @AlexFromCC.”

In December 2022, another reputed Twitter scooper, My Time To Shine Hello, said that “Nova” was going to be a film and not a Special Presentation or show. Here’s the tweet from the scooper:

Another insider called Film Odyssey MCU has said that they have heard that Marvel Studios was developing a “Nova” special first and moving onto a full length feature film. Here’s the tweet:

But later on, Film Odyssey said that they have come to know quite conflicting information about the Nova project. The tweet says:

So for now, the current consensus among the scoopers is that Marvel Studios is developing a “Nova” movie. Along with this, there are also rumors that the character will show up in the upcoming “The Marvels” film.

Why Is There So Much Confusion?

A lot of these insiders have provided correct information and leaks regarding Marvel projects previously. So almost all of the reputed insiders flip-flopping means that probably Marvel Studios themselves aren’t sure how best to introduce Nova. Also, they might not be sure which version of the character they should bring to screen first.

The first Nova, Richard Rider is a beloved character who made his debut in the Marv Wolfman written September 1976 comic book called “The Man Called Nova #1.” He was bestowed with the ability to absorb energy and then convert it into a power pulse thanks to Rhomann Dey, a Nova centurion taking his last breathe.

Also, he had superhuman durability and strength. Rider was given a suit that allowed him to access the Nova Force. When Richard Rider got lost in some other dimension, the Nova Force got a brand new power holder on Earth. This was Sam Alexander. He was the son of a previous Nova Centurion.

So maybe Marvel Studios wants to introduce both the characters and isn’t sure how to do justice to Richard Rider before bringing in Sam Alexander? While a series would be best to depict this development, a Special Presentation or movie won’t be half-bad as well. Although maybe MCU will go a separate route altogether and create an amalgam of the two to satisfy all Nova fans.
