With the release of Marvel’s Special The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special in Dec 2023, Phase 4 of the MCU will end. A highly divisive and mixed phase of MCU will finally conclude its journey, and (maybe) new hope will rise with the arrival of 2023. There are a number of projects that Marvel is about to offer its fans throughout 2023 – be it in the form of movies in theatres or in the form of a series/show for Disney+. Let us look at the top 5 2023 Marvel projects we are most excited about.

5. Ironheart (Fall 2023)

Ironheart in Black Panther-Wakanda Forever

Marvel is about to introduce a new young female superhero in its own solo series – Ironheart. It is known that Riri Williams, aka Ironheart, was originally going to get her own movie. Instead, Marvel decided to give her a six-episode series set to premiere in the fall of 2023. This series would have been further below this ranking, but Dominique Thorne’s debutant performance as Riri Williams (aka Ironheart) in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever changed that.

Thorne played the character with much devotion and fun and successfully added a young blood’s energy into the movie. There is still a lot that is not known about the character of Thorne like her history, motivation, and origins (except for the fact that she is a prodigal technological genius like Tony Stark). Little is known about the plot at this moment, but we do know that the show will continue the events from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Now that audiences have seen her abilities, they surely are very excited to learn more about her and see how she plays out in the future of the MCU. The series shall also feature Anthony Ramos as the evil magician – The Hood and Sacha Baron Cohen as the cunning Marvel devil – Mephisto.

4. Secret Invasion (Early 2023)

Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury in Secret Invasion trailer

Secret Invasion supersedes Ironheart in the ranking only because of the fact that Marvel Studios had already released the first teaser trailer of the series. The teaser promised the return of many fan favorites like – Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders’s Maria Hill, and Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos. The teaser also showed that the series probably shall see Marvel’s return to the beloved tone of movies like that of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The six-episode miniseries is set to premiere at the start of 2023 on Disney+. The series promises to be the biggest crossover even since Endgame and shall also star Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Kingsley Ben-Adir in yet-undisclosed roles. The official premise of the series reads – Fury and Talos try to stop the Skrulls who have infiltrated the highest spheres of the Marvel Universe.

3. Loki Season 2 (Summer 2023)

Loki and Sylvie in Loki season 1

Apart from Marvel’s Phase 4 animated show ‘What If…?’, the only series that has been officially greenlit for its second season is – Loki. At the end of Loki’s first season, Loki’s female variant – Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) kills He-Who-Remains (Jonathan Majors) leading the sacred timeline to break into multiple unstable branches. And towards the end, Loki arrives in an alternate timeline where his friend Mobius (Owen Wilson) no longer recognizes him.

Tom Hiddleston has always been the fan-favorite anti-hero of the Marvel Universe since his appearance. The first season was packed with many surprises and twists, also it successfully expanded the Marvel universe to a much broader spectrum. Season Two will presumably pick up right where the first season left off and is now set to premiere in the summer of 2023.

2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 2023)

James Gunn breathed new life into the MCU by introducing once-not-so-recognizable characters like Star-Lord, Drax, Groot, Nebula, Gamora, and Rocket. He directed the Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but due to resurfacing of some very old tweets by the director himself, he had to part ways with Disney and Marvel. However, Kevin Feige (Marvel Studio’s head honcho) convinced him to return once again to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The movie is set to release in the theatres in May 2023. The Guardians shall continue their cosmic adventures from Thor: Love and Thunder and will probably see them dealing with issues like – the grief of the loss of Gamora and Yondu, searching for Gamora’s variant, and see them facing a new threat – Adam Warlock (Will Poulter).

Gunn has already said in an interview that this movie would be his last outing “with the current Guardians team” as following the movie’s release he shall return to DC studios. This has further peaked audiences’ interest. Exclusive footage of the movie was already shown at this year’s Comic-Con but it is yet to release online. The film also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Dave Bautista. The official premise for the movie reads –  Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill rallies his team to defend the universe and one of their own – a mission that could mean the end of the Guardians if not successful.

1. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (Feb 2023)

Topping our list is obviously – Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It officially kicks off Phase 5 of the MCU and shall continue the story of Paun Rudd’s Ant-Man in The Multiverse Saga. Along with Paul, big names like Michael Douglas, Evangelina Lily, Jonathan Majors, and Michelle Pfeiffer have also joined the cast. Kathryn Newton shall make her MCU debut as Scott’s daughter (Cassie) in the movie. Bill Murray shall also have a surprising cameo in the movie. The studio has also released a trailer for the movie and from the looks of it, this time our tiny superhero is about to embark upon one of his grandest and most dangerous adventures yet.

Major’s Kang shall probably be the main antagonist and the real string-puller behind all the multiversal madness going on in the MCU so far, and we just can’t wait to see his badass side in the movie. It is also rumored that Marvel’s longtime comic villain M.O.D.O.K. shall also make his live-action debut in the movie, giving fans all the more reasons to be excited about the flick. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to release in February 2023.
