Warning: Spoilers ahead for Episode 5 of The Book of Boba Fett.

In the fifth episode of The Book of Boba Fett, the Armorer crafted something for Grogu. This is understandable given how protective Din Djarin is of Grogu, who has been nicknamed ‘Baby Yoda’ by millions of adoring followers and is currently being trained as a Jedi Knight. To take advantage of this, The Book of Boba Fett aired episode 5, “Return of the Mandalorian,” in which both Din and the Armorer reappeared.

He offers her the Beskar spear from The Mandalorian season 2 episode 5 to forge into Grogu’s armor in the fifth and final episode of the series. It is implied by the Armorer that Grogu’s acts will be a barrier to the Jedi’s teachings on attachments, which contradicts Mandalorian culture. Despite this, she persists, and Grogu’s new armor is completed soon enough.

It isn’t revealed to the viewer what the Armorer made for Grogu, although there are a few educated possibilities. Since Grogu’s head appears on the armor’s covering, it’s possible that it’s meant to be a helmet. It’s also likely that Din’s experience with the Mandalorian Darksaber in episode 5 prompted him to create something for Grogu’s legs to prevent the same thing from happening to him.

It’s very probable that Grogu’s armor will be made of chainmail; however. Since the most traditional types of armor include those that wrap around the torso, it seems to reason that Din would want Grogu to wear one of them. Chainmail is made of small metal rings because metal rings were visible during the forging process. Din Djarin’s hands seem tiny enough to fit the wrapping, making the armor within even smaller. This is the major problem with this approach. Grogu, although little, isn’t quite small enough to fit within Din’s palm; thus whatever’s inside may not be able to accommodate someone of Grogu’s size.

Whatever the situation may be, because Din had the Armorer create something for Grogu, but did not document it in The Book of Boba Fett, all that can be done for the time being is hypothesis. Nonetheless, the finale of “Return of the Mandalorian” strongly suggests that Din would give the armor to Grogu before assisting Boba Fett and Fennec Shand deal with the Pyke dispute. The actual identity of Grogu’s armor might be revealed as early as episode 6 of The Book of Boba Fett, although it could also be held back until the third season of The Mandalorian.

When Could We Be Seeing Din Djarin Back In Action?

Even if we don’t witness the long-rumored reunion of Mando and Grogu, we’ll see Din and Boba Fett partner up again before The Book of Boba Fett concludes. Of course, much like The Mandalorian did for The Book of Boba Fett, this season will build the basis for Season 3.

Season 3 hasn’t hit production yet. As of August 2021, Giancarlo Esposito said Season 3 would begin shooting very soon. After The Bad Batch: Season 2 and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series have had their time in the limelight, it’s commonly expected that the show will return in late 2022.

This might indicate that Din would continue to take on bounty hunting missions as he deals with his Darksaber-related issues. But don’t expect Cara Dune to return. There are rumors that the planned Rangers of the New Republic spinoff series may be folded back into The Mandalorian after Carano was sacked by Lucasfilm for her statements.
