She-Hulk has been one of the most sensational and iconic characters in Marvel Comics. Since her debut in Savage She-Hulk #1 in 1979, she has been an essential ally to both Fantastic Four and Avengers. With Jennifer Walters as her alter ego, She-Hulk is a cousin of Hulk aka Bruce Banner. Throughout her many successful comic runs, she has adorned many superhero suits. Let’s look into them one by one –

The Savage Costume

Savage She-Hulk

She-Hulk debuted with a Savage rag white costume. The tattered white costume gave her an edgy and rough look similar to her cousin – Hulk. The look carried on for some more future issues of the character. It was basically an original white outfit of Jen before her transformation into the savage She-Hulk. Later with time, her look evolved into a much more superhero-friendly costume.

All-purple leotard

She-Hulk’s all purple costume

She-Hulk seemed to have a liking to the color purple, Or, perhaps it’s a nod to Hulk’s traditional purple shorts. Whatever the case may be, ultimately She-Hulk settled with an all-purple leotard during her original run as a member of the Avengers. The costume actually belonged to Janet Van Dyne (aka The Wasp).

The Sensational Costume

The Sensational She-Hulk

In the ’80s solo series Sensational She-Hulk, Jennifer Walters started breaking the fourth wall during John Byrne’s run. During this, she wore a varying version of her classic purple leotard. The dress had a white high collar giving her a classic superhero appearance. This later served as a base for her A-Force and Fantastic Four costumes.

The A-Force costume

Another version of the dress that She-Hulk wore during Byrne’s run, appeared in the A-Force comics run. This dress, however, was more angular in design. Further, she went on to adore it while leading the all-female team of superheroes known as A-Force. Alongwith the purple body suit, the dress had a high white collar, white belt, gloves, and boots.

Fantastic Four costume

One of She-Hulk’s most memorable costumes was the one that she wore when she was a part of the Fantastic Four. During this, she wore a sleeveless unitard with the team’s iconic dark blue and red colors. This was probably the only time that she ditched her purple color in her looks. In addition to that, she also wore silver bracelets (like those of Luke Cage) and had a ‘4’ symbol printed at the center in yellow. Earlier when she was a part of the team (the mid-80s), she adopted the classic blue and white color scheme of the team at the time.

The S & H costume

The S and H costume of She-Hulk

For decades, She-Hulk did not have any symbol/insignia on her costume. However during the 2010s, in Charles Soule’s run of the comics, she was given a large ‘S’ and ‘H’ symbol, on her purple and white sleeveless body fit suit. It was also more a halter top and shorts, instead of the usual leotard. It was a nice redesign for the character that fit the artwork of the series, but like most suits for Jen, it didn’t last forever.

Bounty-Hunter She-Hulk costume

The Bounty Hunter She-Hulk

First introduced in Dan Slott’s follow-up run with She-Hulk #22 in 2005 wherein she became a Bounty Hunter. During this time, she was given a white and purple onesie along with a pair of purple jeans. She also had some tactical gears, finishing her modern superhero look.

The Immortal She-Hulk Costume

This design was really a standout. It not only embraced the feminity of the character but also enhanced her muscular physique. This time She-Hulk was given an armored halter top and shorts that gave her the appearance of a martial artist similar to an MMA fighter. This look was really refreshing, even short-lived. Along with her costume, she also wore fingerless gloves and bands around her biceps.

With the introduction of Luke Jacobs as the costume designer of She-Hulk’s costume in the latest episode of Marvel’s She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, we shall probably see her soon in her MCU costume. Whatever it shall look like, however, few things are certain – it will have purple in it and it shall give a look fitting enough to join the new Avengers. Let’s wait and see what look she adorns in her live-action adaptation.
