What Ryan Reynolds Says About Doctor Strange 2’s Deadpool Rumors

MCU fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the X-Men in the MCU following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool is at the top of the list. This is so with two solo films under his belt and a third on the horizon. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the MCU’s immediate future, while mutants are still a long way off. The focus of the film will be on Stephen Strange and Wanda Maximoff. Nonetheless, it’s possible that the X-Men will make their feature film debut in that film.

A lot of people are excited to see the classic X-Men make an appearance in the Marvel Studios story. This is especially so after seeing the sequel’s second full trailer during Super Bowl LVI. Sir Patrick Stewart’s Professor X has already been confirmed to be a member of Marvel’s Illuminati. Furthermore, that could be just the beginning of it.

The first official poster for Doctor Strange 2 has sparked speculation that the Merc with a Mouth will make his MCU debut in the sequel. Even though Reynolds has heard those rumors, he has decided to keep them quiet for the time being as the go-to person for everything Deadpool.

During a press tour for The Adam Project, Ryan Reynolds, star of Deadpool, talked with Variety about his rumored appearance in Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

A few jokes and comparisons were made after Reynolds was first asked whether he’s playing Deadpool in the Doctor Strange sequel. However, when asked again, Reynolds said he’s “not really supposed to say anything.”:

“Oh wow, Marc, that’s like the least covert trap I’ve ever seen in my life… No, that was a 1978 leg-hold trap from Russia, like I saw that from 100 miles away… Yeah I don’t, I’m not really supposed— I guess I’m not really supposed to say anything about that but I’m really not in the movie.”

Reynolds admitted that he might have been lying, but he insisted that he was being honest:

“I could be lying, but I promise you I’m not in the movie.”

He jokes about having a “team of people that will neutralize you” as soon as he finished the interview:

“We’re good, we’re good, we’re good! There’s a team of people that will neutralize you as soon as you leave here.”

Deadpool 3 was also brought up by Reynolds. Walker Scobell’s co-star was asked if he had a role in the Marvel Studios production, and the actor declined. Scobell’s dressing room would have been stocked with “one billion brown M&M’s” and “unicorn hair” if that were the case, says Reynolds:

Reynolds: “I sure as hell hope so. [Talking to Scobell] How do you feel about it? Are you gonna like come with some crazy rider?”

Scobell: “I’ll do it.”

Reynolds: “One billion brown M&Ms and like y’know, thrice-combed unicorn hair in your dressing room everyday?”

It’s coming along… You’re not getting anything today, Marc. I’m sorry.”

What About Wade Wilson In The Sequel?

Ryan Reynolds's Update On Deadpool 3 Makes Fans More Hopeful

In the last year alone, it’s become abundantly clear that the truth about what’s coming to the MCU has multiple facets.

When NWH came out at the end of the year with major cameos and Multiversal crossovers, fans were able to see this for themselves. It was revealed that Alfred Molina would be involved in the threequel before its release. Meanwhile, Andrew Garfield was kept under wraps as to any hints that the actor would be involved in the MCU.

Since Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige made it crystal clear in January 2021, fans already know that Reynolds will be bringing his Wade Wilson character into the MCU at some point in the future. While it’s possible that he’ll reprise his role as Deadpool in Doctor Strange 2, it’s more of a question mark as to when that might happen.

To be fair, in October of 2021, the actor did say he was taking a break from filmmaking. For this reason, it’s possible that his comments about not appearing in Doctor Strange 2 are accurate. In light of how secretive Marvel Studios is, and how frequently rumors about Phase 4 have appeared on the internet, nothing can be completely ruled out.

Whether or not Reynolds is being truthful, anticipation is building for both Reynolds’ debut as Deadpool and X-Men as a whole. In Doctor Strange 2, Professor X will open the floodgates. This would allow the mutants to join the ranks of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
