Marvel Studios makes a dynamic return to Disney+. And this latest series gives the limelight to Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton. Hawkeye Episode 1 titled “Never Meet Your Heroes”? Features an intriguing subject when a robbery takes place. And a Tracksuit Mafia is seen stealing an Avengers’ watch. But who does the watch belong to?

Clint Barton is one of the former original Earth Mightiest Heroes members. And with Hawkeye, he has received a win in the form of a standalone show. The first two episodes of Hawkeye have displayed several ties to the bigger MCU. This includes an important timepiece that was owned by one of the Avengers.

Hawkeye Episode 1 introductions

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Hawkeye Episode 1

Hawkeye is set two years after the events of Avengers: Endgame took place. The show focuses on Clint, who tries to protect Kate Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld. Clint will probably move on to become her mentor. In addition, Hawkeye will also cut the loose ends left behind during his time as Ronin.

It is obvious that Barton still has some nightmares from his masked vigilante days. And the impact he left on the world’s criminal underworld is about to face some repercussions. However, despite the still lasting effect on criminals like Hawkeye’s Tracksuit Mafia, the show will also explore the fallout that came after Endgame and the Battle of New York. Also, the episode introduces a chirpy Captain America musical and a secret auction which leads to an unexpected robbery at the Avengers HQ after Thanos’ MCU defeat.

Ronin’s suit and a particularly significant timepiece

After the dust from the war with Josh Brolin’s Thanos in Avengers: Endgame settled, the debris was turned over and scoured. Some heroes’ belongings were found at the time, which was then sold in the black market. This pile also contained Ronin’s retractable sword and suit. There was a wristwatch that ended up being a part of the set of possessions being auctioned in an exclusive underground closed setup.

However, before the watch could be put up for a bid, the Tracksuit Mafia created an explosion at the event to steal it. There was no clear explanation about why they wanted that particular timepiece. Even so, the fact that they made a huge deal about the item made it obvious that the wristwatch was priceless and of higher significance.

Avengers Watch stole in Hawkeye.

But the question is, who did the watch belong to? Most theories point out to Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), and here is are the reasons why. The first point to notice is that the watch is priced higher than the $2 million dinosaur head.

And we know that amongst all the Avengers, Stark is the only one that’s extraordinarily rich. And now to focus on the fact that it belongs as personal as a watch that a dead hero owned. This could either be extremely precious to a collector who loved Tony Stark. Or someone who had a nasty fallout with Iron Man.

Reasons why the watch could be Tony Stark’s

In Avengers: Endgame, Tony Stark lived in a lake house with his wife, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). But before that, he lived in the Avengers HQ along with some of the other Avengers. And in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) was in the middle of moving Stark’s possessions from the Avengers tower in Manhattan to the new facility in Upstate New York, which makes sense that the concerned timepiece was buried with his other things after the battle with Thanos.

Not only that, actor Robert Downey Jr himself is fond of watches, and he owns an excellent collection. Since Renner sees Downey Jr. as a senior and considers him a mentor in the MCU, Renner may be paying a silent tribute to the actor through Hawkeye. Whatever the case, Tony Stark’s character carries a lot of resemblances with Downey Jr anyway. So whether the show is touching upon his Marvel superhero or the actor himself, the results will somehow be the same.

Why is the Tracksuit Mafia after the wristwatch?

The mystery that still stays put is this. Why is the Tracksuit Mafia looking for this watch? Several expensive items were being auctioned in episode 1 of Hawkeye. But still, the team of criminals focused on this specific artifact, which makes us believe that the watch is not an ordinary one. And if the watch belonged to Tony Stark, the chances are that he tempered with its mechanism and upgraded it with Stark Tech.

In Captain America: Civil War, we saw Stark wear a wristwatch that could turn into an Iron Man gauntlet. If someone criminal-minded like the Tracksuit Mafia ends up acquiring this sort of technology, they will use it to better their equipment. Whatever direction the story moves forward in, the watch will certainly have an importance in the narrative. And hopefully, Marvel Studios will reveal the name of the Avenger who owned the item soon enough.
