During an interview, Charlie Cox discusses his desire to see the “sexy” relationship between Daredevil and Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After being recruited by Clint Barton to help her escape her past life of assassination for the Red Room, Scarlett Johansson first brought the iconic heroine to life in the MCU with Iron Man 2. She would go on to play Black Widow in nine more films, constructing her as a founding member of the Avengers Initiative and resulting in her fighting Loki, Ultron, and Thanos for the fate of the universe in the process.

A mini-universe of interconnected shows, including Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Punisher, was established around Charlie Cox’s Daredevil debut in the eponymous Netflix series. When Spider-Man: No Way Home aired a few years after Cox’s show was canceled, he appeared as Peter Parker’s lawyer and showed a hint of his skills by preventing an oncoming brick from striking the young web-slinger in the face, confirming his Daredevil MCU connections. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and Cox have both confirmed that the actor is looking forward to the character’s continued involvement in the MCU.

Charlie Cox reflected on the potential future of Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe while speaking with ComicBook.com about the recent Kin season 2 renewal. Daredevil’s relationship with Black Widow is “funny” and “sexy,” according to the actor when he was asked who he would like to play alongside in the MCU. Here’s what Cox had to say about it:

“I really like the Black Widow, the Daredevil/Black Widow stuff. That relationship is really funny to me, I don’t know why. I find it really funny and sexy at the same time.”

Elektra Natchios, Matt Murdock’s college sweetheart in the comics, has a rocky relationship with the hero, as her violent nature clashes with Matt’s moral beliefs. But after she moves to San Francisco and works as a self-sufficient hero alongside him, Daredevil and Black Widow try to date one another, but the two break up when she returns to the Avengers and fears that their relationship is turning her into a sidekick. They later reunited in Matt’s hometown of New York City. but Black Widow was unable to reignite their romance after discovering he was seeing Heather Glenn and realizing he no longer saw her as anything more than a platonic acquaintance.

Though it may be difficult, given the death of Johansson’s character in Avengers: Endgame, Cox’s desire to see Daredevil and Black Widow’s relationship in the MCU is still feasible. It is possible that Yelena Belova has taken over for Black Widow in the MCU, as was done in the comics, and with her revealed a love for New York in the Disney+ series Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home, it is possible that she and Matt Murdock could have their own romance in the near future.
