Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is continuing in full swing. After the success of WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki, MCU is soon going to be back with more live-action Disney+ projects.

One of the upcoming projects is Ms. Marvel. The show is going to introduce Kamala Khan into the MCU. And she has a particular power set that resembles another character’s abilities in the Marvel comic universe.

But as per released posters and badges, it looks like that power set has been altered. However, this change makes sense.

There Is A Reason Behind Kamala Khan’s Power Set Alteration

Ms. Marvel official posterMCU’s Infinity Saga is finally over. The original Avengers have disbanded, and now it’s time to continue the Marvel Cinematic Universe by adding new characters, concepts, etc.

What makes Phase 4 exciting is that it is rapidly growing the MCU through movies and live-action and animated tv shows. Incorporating streaming has allowed the MCU to explore characters better.

As seen through WandaVision and What If…?, it has allowed the franchise to explore complex and alternate stories that complement, enrich, and ultimately tie into the movie side of the franchise better.

And the franchise is doing it all through new characters like Kamala Khan, played by Iman Vellani. Kamala Khan is a teenage Muslim Pakistani-American girl who is a huge Captain Marvel fan.

Later on, she gains shape-shifting powers that lead to her taking on the Ms. Marvel mantle. On the pages of Marvel comics, Kamala Khan’s powers came from her Inhuman heritage and were activated through the Terrigen Bomb.

These powers allow her to change her body structure. So she can elongate it, shrink it, etc. She can adjust her stature, height, and more. Kamala can even change her appearance to look like someone or something else.

Along with this, she also possesses accelerated healing powers. Now, promotional material for the show has revealed that they are changing her power set. So instead of giving her stretching ability, the MCU gives her DC’s Green Lantern’s construct-creating abilities.

So she will generate purple energy around the body parts that she wants to alter. Or at least, that seems to be the case. We will know more when the show premiers.

But for now, fans are speculating the reason behind the power changes. We think that it’s because her stretching abilities are not adapting well to live-action.

Also, maybe they want to give her a power set that fits better with the other Marvels- Monica Rambeau and Carol Danvers. After all, they have energy-based powers as well.

However, some fans think that this might not be the only reason.

Readers of Marvel comics will know that her powers are pretty similar to Reed Richards/Mr’s. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four. Now, thanks to the Disney/Fox merge, the MCU will soon be welcoming the Fantastic Four.

And Mr. Fantastic is the character who is most well-known for having stretching abilities. As such, the franchise might want to make him unique and stand out more. So they might be reluctant to give Kamala those powers first.

No matter the reason behind the change, the impact and importance of Kamala Khan can’t be understated. This new power set may allow her to stand out when the Fantastic Four arrive while still feeling a part of The Marvels.

Right now, we shouldn’t jump to conclusions. We don’t know the whole story behind the change or how the powers will exactly play out in the story. Waiting for more context might help us understand the reason behind the change.
