Netflix released the official trailer for its upcoming Season 2 of The Witcher. The trailer shows Geralt rescuing his friend Jaskier from jail, which means that the good old Witcher needs the bard to accompany him on his path.

Audiences’ beloved bard Jaskier makes an interesting appearance in The Witcher Season 2 trailer, and apparently, Geralt needs the Dandelion’s assistance again. The dystopian world of The Witcher brought together massive success and acclaim for Netflix.

Season 1 threw off the fans by making them familiar with a new fantasy world full of monsters and grit, as well as magical elements, paired with a witty sense of humour, all the while telling the story of this incredible monster hunter known infamously as Geralt of Rivia, played by Henry Cavill.

In Season 1, Episode 2, titled “Four Marks,” we see the always brooding Witcher Geralt along with a light-hearted bard Jaskier (Joey Batey). The bard’s mere companionship with Geralt gradually turns from an annoyance to a sidekick, and then eventually, the two form a strange kind of friendship as Season 1 advances.

The Witcher Season 2 is filled with an extravagant display of all the emotions and instincts we are about to witness in the show as Geralt of Rivia, princess Ciri (Freya Allan), and Yennefer Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) cross paths with each other.

Towards the end, in the trailer of The Witcher Season 2, we see Jaskier in jail for some reason, stuck with a pair of mice, whom the bard calls his “new friends”. Geralt appears at the door in a frenzy to free Jaskier with the words, “we need your help.”

When it comes to the reason as to why Geralt is seen hurriedly seeking help from the bard in The Witcher Season 2, we already have that figured out from several instances seen in Season 1.

While Jaskier’s character is that of funny and chipper, and often a little annoying, there is no denying that Jaskier is a walking encyclopedia of all there is know about The Witcherverse. This means that Jaskier is more an asset to Geralt than anyone else since the Witcher might need to fight various unknown creatures.

Not only that, but Jaskier also helps Geralt make a lot of money in The Witcher Season 1 with his talent for singing, and we have seen how money plays an important role in Geralt’s endeavours. Other than this, as Season 1 progressed, we saw Geralt grow tolerant of Jaskier, and the relationship between the two slowly shifted to a beautiful friendship.

Despite blaming Jaskier for all of Geralt’s troubles, the Witcher does need someone by his side to accompany him on his strange journey, and he probably wouldn’t choose anyone other than Jaskier.

Why Geralt would need Jaskier’s Help in Season 2

When Geralt first meets Jaskier in The Witcher Season 1, he is left exasperated. But with time, Jaskier the Bard proves himself to be useful. The bard’s extensive knowledge about The Sylvan culture makes it easy for Geralt to get the elven king of Filavandrel in his favour.

While the Dandelion looks young and merry, he is well over in his 40s. These years on him have been fruitful in that Jaskier has acquired a plethora of wisdom and enlightenment before meeting Geralt. Henceforth, it would make sense for the Witcher to seek Jaskier’s help for his knowledge regarding all the plights yet to be faced in Season 2.

We have seen Geralt express his need for new armour several times in Season 1 of The Witcher, and this is where his quirky friendship with Jaskier is also beneficial. The bard has a knack for getting financial gains, which means more money for Geralt.

Jaskier has also composed several songs surrounding Geralt’s formidable demeanor as a monster hunter, and his songs have made the pair famous receive a windfall from many Crowns. So it is likely that Geralt would require Jaskier’s help for yet another financial situation.

However, if we take Geralt to be “nicer” in Season 2, his gesture of freeing Jaskier could also mean that the Witcher only wants the bard to accompany him as a friend. The series has already portrayed Geralt’s ability to show emotions, making him more human than other witchers.

So his efforts to keep Jaskier by his side in The Witcher Season 2 can be seen as a mere act of continuing to be friends with someone he can tolerate being around.
