King Viserys had a third son named Daeron Targaryen who hasn’t been shown in HOTD yet, as his character will be revealed later. Here’s why.

Daeron Targaryen, in the books, is the most loved of the three Targaryen brothers. George Martin and Ryan Condal wrote him to be the Tommen of House of the Dragon, as he is kind and just one of King Viserys’s sons. So far, in House of the Dragon, Viserys and Alicent have had three children, namely Aegon II Targaryen (the eldest), Aemond Targaryen (middle child), and Halaena Targaryen (thirdborn daughter). However, there is one missing character, and that is Daeron Targaryen, King Viserys’s last child.

Here’s something peculiar; George R. R. Martin wrote on his content posting webpage (must not call it a blog) specifically named ‘Not a Blog,’ that House of the Dragons fans will see Daeron Targaryen on screen. But how is that possible now that King Viseys is dead and cannot produce a child anymore?

Let’s find out.

Daemon Targaryen Isn’t The Only Thing Martin Left Out

Daeron Targaryen isn’t the only person George Martin did not focus on. For example, it is a well-known fact that Rhanyra’s sons, Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey, are bastards of Ser Harwin Strong. However, House of the Dragon did not focus on the relationship between Rhaenyra and Harwin Strong. In the show, Harwin Strong is sent to Harrenhal so that no further scandal can happen between him and his daughter Rhaenyra. Harwin is now assumed dead when his brother, Larys, burnt down Harrenhal with their father, Lord Lyonel Strong. Also, Rhaenyra is now married to her uncle Daemon, who also lost his wife, Rhaena Royce, who died after falling off her horse.

However, the thing is that Martin did not actually leave out Daeron Targaryen, son of Viserys, after all. His website revealed that House of the Dragon would show Daeron later.

Martin’s Great Reveal About Daeron Targaryen

According to the books, Daeron Targaryen was sent to Oldtown, the seat of the Hightowers, Daeron Targaryen’s mother. It was believed that as the younger children were not to inherit the throne, they were sent to a place of religion and faith. As Oldtown is the location of the Maester’s Citadel and the place of the Seven Gods of the Sept, Daeron was sent there.

How the character of Daeron Targaryen is built can be known by the fact that he grew up in Oldtown near the faithful people. He is described as kind and loving (Kind and loving Targaryens exist? Who knew?) and was loved back by the people and his family. He is not a drunk and a sex hound, unlike his brothers Aegon and Aemond. He does take part in all the family conflicts, including the civil war, so we have a lot to brace for. Also, because he is at Oldtown right now, he is not shown in House of the Dragon yet. Daeron Targaryen will be shown later when the civil war starts in House of the Dragon.
