Hela was last seen during Thor: Ragnarok where she was the primary villain. When Surtur was destroying Asgard, Hela was presumed dead. However, if there is anything we know about the MCU is that no one is truly dead unless you see it clearly on screen. Basically she could return to the MCU. Here are a few reasons why Marvel should bring this character back instead of simply killing her after one outing. After all, she is the Goddess of Death.

Hela changed Thor forever

Her presence in Thor: Ragnarok changed the franchise forever. Thor as a character too underwent drastic changes. Hela destroyed Thor’s trusty Mjolnir, leaving him in shock. She also made him blind in one eye and changed up his entire look. The brothers were no match for her. Hela managed to take over Asgard and send both brothers flying in space. With the common enemy Hela, Thor and Loki too reunited and buried the hatchet. Moreover, her actions compelled Thor to release Surtur on Asgard and destroy the planet.

Exploring the Asgardian Royal Family

Over the course of the Thor movies we have only ever heard of the previous Asgardian rulers in bits and pieces. MCU has never truly dived into Asgardian history and how ferocious their conquests were. However, Ragnarok finally gave us some insight on Odin’s life and history. Hela, Odin’s first born was the commander of the Asgardian army, Einherjar. She was ruthless and hungry for power. The movie explored how Asgard took command of the various realms. Further exploration of Hela can also show us glimpses of the battles and even the fall of the Valkyries.

Hela is absolutely evil

We love villains like Killmonger and even Thanos. They’re complex and driven by genuine motivations which gives many layers to their characters. But sometimes we just need a big bad villain who only wants power and will go to any length to get it. She doesnt care about life or people and is ready to kill absolutely everyone in her way.

She is the ruler of The Afterlife

Hela is the ruler of the Asgardian Afterlife, Hel. This basically means that if she died in Ragnarok her soul would have simply been transported to Hel. Hela has complete control here and can use her powers to bring herself back to life. This would definitely be an interesting power to explore. This is especially considering that the MCU has just explored Valhalla which is Asgardian Heaven in Thor: Love and Thunder. Fans would love to see what Hel looks like and how Hela rules it.

Appear in the What If…? series

She had a complicated romance with the mad Titan himself, Thanos. In the comics Thanos went after the Infinity Stones so as to please Death. This alternate motivation can be explored in the show. Thanos was in love with Death but she ignored his advances. Eventually Hela came about and promised him his love. They then shared a kiss. Hela even resurrected Thanos with the help of the Black Order, so she could be with him, despite him breaking up with her before his death. Later on, both of them were sucked into a black hole and most likely died. This could be quite an interesting pairing to explore.

Her connection to the X-Men

She has had several run ins with the mutants of X-Men, more specifically due to Dani Moonstar. She was both a mutant and a part of the Valkyries. In fact she often asked the Goddess of Death for her help to reincarnate other fallen mutants. Hela once even tried to claim Wolverine’s soul, although unsuccessfully. In another storyline, she transformed the Valkyries into Fire Demons and pit them against the new mutants. This also made Danielle Moonstar betray her mutant friends. Hela eventually forced the Dwarf King, Eitri to forge her an Uru sword. Nonetheless, she was defeated once again by the mutants. We know that the MCU is introducing mutants and the X-Men. This connection provides another opportunity to bring Hela back on our screens.
