Right after two episodes are aired for House of the Dragon, the co-showrunner of the show exits. This series is recorded to be the biggest premiere in the entire HBO network. The show has already got the renewal for a second season as well. So, why did the co-showrunner left the show when it is in the pathway of a huge success?

Miguel Sapochnik Is Leaving The Show Mid-Way

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Miguel Sapochnik is leaving the side of Ryan Condal on executing the series as co-showrunner. There has been no reported reason for the same. As per the available information, he just mentioned that he is tired of working for three years on this prequel to Game of Thrones.

Even though he is exiting the show, he will still be the executive producer of House of the Dragon. Apart from that, Sapochnik has also signed deal with HBO for various new projects.

Currently, Condal will continue to run the show, alongside the co-creator, George R.R. Martin, who wrote the book that the story is based on. Alan Taylor, will now be joining the crew of House of the Dragon as executive producer and director.

Sapochnik said to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview that, “Working with the Thrones universe for the past few years has been a privilege and honour, especially spending the last two years with amazing cast and crew of House of the Dragon.”

“I am so proud of the success so far with Season 1 of House of the Dragon and are joyous with the viewers’ reaction to it. It was a very tough decision for me to move on, but I believe this is the right choice for me on both professional and personal terms. As I do so, though, I am comfortable by the news that Alan is going to join the series. He is the person whom I have known for a long time and am sure that this precious show is in safe hands. I am still glad to be part of the HBO and House of the Dragon family. I also wish Ryan and his team enormous success with Season 2 and all of the forthcoming instalments of this series.”, He added.

Can Alan Taylor Fill The Shoes Of Miguel Sapochnik?

Alan Taylor is not new to HBO, as he has directed seven episodes of Game of Thrones. To remind you of his excellence, he directed last two episodes of Season 1, where we see the death of Ned Stark and birth of Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons.

Alan says in an interview to The Hollywood Reporter,

“I look forward to work closely with Ryan and other crew, as House of the Dragon is up for a second season. Ryan, George and Miguel have set up an extraordinary story, to let the fans return to Westeros once again. It is going to be a huger undertaking, but I am ready to take on the challenge.”

As per the statements by Sapochnik, it seems like there is no rivalry or sentimental reason behind his departure. We fans can only hope that this change in crew doesn’t effect the storyline and direction efficiency of House of the Dragon, just like it happened for the final two seasons of Game of Thrones.
