The season 2 finale of The Mandalorian went from being great to amazing just because of the appearance of Luke Skywalker. Seeing young Luke made fans squeal with delight. It was all made possible due to new technology that allowed Mark Hamill to be de-aged into his younger version.

Luke’s surprise appearance in The Mandalorian season 2 finale was made more special by the fact that Mark Hamill was heavily involved. As expected, after the finale surprise, fans wanted to see more of young Luke.

Now, there will be a special Disney+ Gallery episode that will focus on the technology used to bring young Luke Skywalker to life. But that won’t be enough.

Fans are already theorizing if Luke will appear in season 3 of The Mandalorian. But right now, there’s nothing but rumors to go on. However, it’s possible that Luke might show. But, it won’t be possible for The Mandalorian to afford the technology for a season or so to de-age Mark Hamill again.

But there’s a way out. And that’s recasting. But who should be cast? Fans know just the perfect actor.

Why Should Sebastian Stan Be Cast As Young Like Skywalker?

Fans have been fan-casting Sebastian Stan as Luke for a long time. Some years ago, there were rumors of Lucasfilm and Disney developing a Disney+ series that was going to be set after the events of the original trilogy. Back then, there were calls to cast Sebastian Stan as young Luke Skywalker because he did look like a young Hamill.

But this leisure fan casting can turn out to be important for the show. This recasting will help the show explore Grogu’s training in a way that won’t be impeded by budget reasons.

After all, in The Mandalorian season 2 finale, the 50-year-old Baby Yoda had to say goodbye to Din Djarin. This was because he needed to get trained in the ways of the Force.

Now, Grogu might not play a big role in season 3, but the show will inevitably focus on him. After all, he is a fan-favorite character. And it’s quite possible that the show will depict Grogu getting trained by Luke before (hopefully) reuniting him with Din Djarin. So this means that Luke could have an expanded role in season 3 as the foundling’s teacher.

Casting Sebastian Stan Won’t Undermine Mark Hamill

Many fans fear that bringing in Sebastian Stan would take away from the legitimacy of Mark Hamill’s casting. But as said before, logistically and due to budget reasons, it would be impossible to bring in Hamill and de-age him for large chunks of an episode.

But Stan looks similar to a young Luke Skywalker. So it wouldn’t undermine Mark Hamill at all. In fact, Sebastian Stan himself doesn’t want to star as Luke Skywalker if he doesn’t have Mark’s blessings.

It’s similar to how Alden Ehrenreich playing Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars story didn’t take away from Harrison Ford’s contribution to the role. Also, Sebastian Stan already has an existing and ongoing relationship with Disney. So it would make things easy.

Sebastian Stan’s Disney Connection Will Make The Transition Easier

Sebastian Stan’s notable role to this date is as Bucky Barnes in the MCU. He has starred in 5 franchise installments starting with Captain America: The First Avenger.

Recently, Stan was seen as the co-lead of the Disney+ show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. So Disney has shown that it’s certainly willing to have actors be in its franchise films as well as in the Disney+ streaming shows.

But right now, no decision has been taken by Disney on this matter. And it’s likely that even if Sebastian Stan was cast as Luke Skywalker, viewers won’t get to know till season 3 premieres. After all, fans didn’t know about Ahsoka Tano or even Luke Skywalker appearing in the show till their respective season 2 episodes premiered.

However, if this happens, then it would be a win-win situation for all. First of all, fans would get the casting they have wanted, and the show would be able to tell the stories with Luke it wants.

But will it happen? That will be revealed in season 3, which seems to have begun production. Till season 3 arrives, you can check out the two seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney+.
