Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman will be one of the new heroes introduced in Eternals to the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the MCU, Harington portrays another sword-wielding hero, with Whitman on the route to become the franchise’s, Black Knight. Harington previously portrayed Jon Snow in the hit show Game of Thrones. Dane Whitman, the hero of Marvel Comics, is known for wielding the Ebony Blade, a mystical sword.

Sir Percy of Scandia, the character’s ancestor, paved the way for his transformation into a Marvel hero. Whitman has been a part of numerous comic book teams, including the Avengers and the Defenders, among others. When it comes to Harington’s role, it has been revealed that he has a romantic relationship with Gemma Chan’s Sersi. Aside from the burgeoning romance, few facts are known regarding Harington’s position in Eternals; nevertheless, there is speculation that Whitman could take on the role of Black Knight.

What Will Kit Harington’s MCU Future Look Like?

Screen Rant was able to get a remark from Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore about Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman role in Eternals during a set visit in January 2020. However, while Moore affirmed that Whitman will ultimately go on to become Black Knight in the MCU’s future, the producer made it clear that Harington’s MCU character “won’t be the Black Knight” in Eternals. This foreshadowed Harington’s position in the film, as well as Whitman’s friendship with Gemma Chan, who plays Sersi. The Marvel Studios executive also said Whitman will not be using the Ebony Blade in this movie.

“We think he’s interesting and a great character and actually Kit Harington, who just wrapped yesterday, was fantastic, but we very much explore the relationship between Dane Whitman and Sersi, which is again something for comic readers … you won’t see the Ebony Blade in this movie. He’s not going to be a Black Knight necessarily, but that is something that we get to play with down the road.”

According to Nate Moore’s remarks, Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman will likely use Eternals as a heroic launching pad. Many think this is the best strategy for a crucial character like Whitman since it allows the MCU to properly examine the hero before transferring him into a larger role in the future.

Previous interviews with the Game of Thrones actor have suggested Whitman symbolizes the human character of the plot. This potentially hints at the possibility of seeing current events from his point of view in the movie. This would provide the character with a better understanding of the history of the Eternals. Furthermore, it gives him the confidence to take on the role of hero on his own. According to filmmaker Chloe Zhao, the film will contain two post-credits scenes, one of which could explore Whitman’s search for the Ebony Blade, which was left behind by his ancestors. This post-credits scene, which focuses on the Black Knight, is in keeping with Marvel Studios’ history of telling the franchise’s future course.

When facing magical adversaries like the Scarlet Witch, Whitman’s transformation into Black Knight makes him impervious to magic. Whitman is also a talented scientist, which makes him an asset when formulating methods that call for a scientific solution. In the future, Whitman is likely to play an important role alongside Sersi. It will certainly be intriguing to see how Eternals develops Whitman as a hero in the long run.
