Spider-Man: No Way Home starred Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their respective wall-crawling heroes. And without a doubt, their appearance marked a watershed moment for the MCU. The return of the Spider-Men as well as the first significant use of the Multiverse in the MCU canon marked the beginning of a new era for the MCU. Furthermore, this has changed the landscape forever.
Marvel Studios recently conducted significant reshoots on the highly anticipated blockbuster to add more cameos in the same vein as Loki and No Way Home. This was done to keep the film fresh and exciting. It’s not clear if Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will appear in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel.
Will Tobey Maguire And Andrew Garfield Return For Doctor Strange 2?
NWH is the latest Spidey film to feature a reunion between Maguire and Garfield. There were cheers and applause all over the world when Spider-Man and his ilk made their long-awaited comebacks.
A return for either actor in Multiverse of Madness has yet to be confirmed through official leaks or rumors. Although it’s not hard to see how they could fit into Doctor Strange’s next adventure, given the promises of unexpected cameos, reality-hopping action, and an Avengers-level blockbuster.
According to reports, the Multiverse romp has recently undergone significant reshoots to add even more surprises and cameos. Marvel may wish to take advantage of renewed interest in Maguire and Garfield in the lead-up to NWH. This is so given the unprecedented excitement surrounding their upcoming return.
With Sony and Marvel Studios’ current deal, the wall-crawler is allowed to be used in a limited number of MCU projects in exchange for the appearance of other heroes in the Spider-Man films. Because of the appearance of Doctor Strange in NWH, Marvel could use Spider-Man in an original project. These include Multiverse of Madness.
Marvel Studios’ current ability to use Spider-Man in the MCU is limited. For some reason, the character’s one appearance in the MCU won’t be a cameo. Using Spider-Man in the Doctor Strange sequel would almost certainly necessitate an extended role. This in turn would be difficult to fit into an already jam-packed and chaotic blockbuster.
Regardless, how would Spider-Man fit into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness if he appeared?
Is Spider-Man Necessary For Doctor Strange 2?
It wouldn’t be out of the question for one of the wall-crawlers to show up in some capacity, just as the sorcerer recently appeared in Spider- Man’s outing.
Maguire’s Spider-Man would be a good fit for the movie’s Illuminati-style team of heroes. This is because of his experience, intelligence, and time spent already hopping universes. Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire’s reunion for yet another superhero blockbuster would be a perfect fit for Maguire’s return.
When the Multiversal invaded the MCU in NWH, Doctor Strange went on a universe-hopping mission in Multiverse of Madness. Raimi’s original Spider-Man universe could be one of these alternate realities, giving the director a chance to explain J. Jonah Jameson’s allusion to Doctor Strange in the sequel to his wall-crawler epic.
It’s more difficult to see how Garfield’s Peter Parker could fit into the Multiversal puzzle other than as a heroic cameo. Despite recent rumors, Sony and Marvel may use the British actor much more frequently in the future, as Multiverse of Madness is just around the corner.
