DCU as a franchise has always been a rollercoaster ride for fans. They don’t really know if the announced projects will go through or end up getting cancelled. And even if the movie makes it to the big screen, it gets heavily edited before that. Fans thought that after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over, this guessing game would stop. But apparently it won’t. New reports highlight that Henry Cavill might be out of DC again and that Wonder Woman 3 is now not moving forward.

Wonder Woman 3 Not Moving Forward At DC Studios

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Patty Jenkins directed and Gal Gadot starring Wonder Woman 3 has hit a dead end at the new DC Studios. The outlet reports that:

“Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 is not moving forward and is considered dead in its current incarnation. Jenkins recently submitted her treatment, co-written with Geoff Johns, and that Gunn and Safran, as well as Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs and co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, broke the news to the filmmaker, telling her the project — as it stood — did not fit in with the new (but still unfolding) plans.”

As for what happens next, THR says:

“No decision has been made about next steps.”

Henry Cavill’s Future As Superman Again In Flux

The Hollywood Reporter also says that Henry Cavill’s return isn’t etched in stone either. And that the new bosses seem to be shutting down Man of Steel 2 as well as Cavill’s return to the DCEU. The outlet says:

“Cavill posted a video on Instagram where he announced, ‘I wanted to make it official — I am back as Superman’. And at that time, he was not incorrect. Warner Bros. was indeed developing a sequel for 2013’s Man of Steel and actively meeting with writers… But that was before Gunn and Safran began formulating their new (and still in flux) plan.”

Also, the article mentions that Henry Cavill has shot for the upcoming The Flash movie, but it’s unclear if his cameo will be kept. As per THR:

“Cavill shot his part of the cameo in September. But sources say there is a debate inside the studio as whether or not to keep the cameo and if its inclusion promises something that studio would have no plans on delivering.”

What Does This Mean For The Future Of The DCU?

The shelving of Wonder Woman 3 in its current form, Henry Cavill’s return again being a question mark, all point to perhaps James Gunn and Peter Safran rebooting the DC universe and starting from scratch. The THR article also mentions that The Flash, which is supposed to release next year is an “unlocked picture”.

This means that the movie can go back to filming again soon. After all, the big rumor is that DC is using this movie to reboot their universe and as such the movie isn’t locked in because the DC bosses don’t have a concrete plan as of yet. It remains to be seen how this story develops further.
