Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) are eagerly awaiting the long-awaited return of the X-Men after the purchase of 20th Century Fox Studios. One version of the X-Men will appear in X-Men ’97, but the only live-action production involving these characters is The Mutants. The X-Men will be revived for a new generation of fans by Marvel Studios.

New animation projects such as Spider-Man: Freshman Year and Marvel Zombies were announced at Disney+ Day 2021 as part of a big series of announcements.

Having the ability to carry a great narrative from the prior generation ahead while bringing it up to the MCU’s quality of storytelling is a unique opportunity for this one, though.

As of right now, Marvel Studios hasn’t provided any information on how the X-Men program’s plot would be enriched or when the show will launch on Disney+. Thanks to the people that worked on the programme 30 years ago, we now have a lot more details.

How Many Episodes Would The Show Have?

The authors of X-Men: The Animated Series, Eric and Julia Lewald, previewed Marvel Studios’ X-Men ’97 on Disney+ in an interview with Justin Underwood on his YouTube channel.

The two Marvel Studios executives announced that X-Men ’97 would have 10 episodes, praising the efforts of showrunner Beau DeMayo and his crew at Marvel Studios. It will also be available on Disney+ by the middle of 2023, when the service launches:

“There is great love and affection and respect from an entire group of people that are doing this show, starting at the top with Beau DeMayo as the showrunner. And they have this challenge, I believe, looking at 10 episodes for the first season that’s gonna come out mid-next year, and they’re starting it soon after ours ended.”

That Marvel Studios is taking up where they left off in 1996 has been hinted to by the original show’s cast and crew.

“There’ll be references, fans will be able to sit down and say ‘Oh, I’m thinking about stuff that happened previously on X-Men, and it’s gonna lead into… So, they’re starting at that starting point and then building the stories that they’d like to go off of that.”

While Disney+’s schedule for 2023 is still up in the air, Marvel Studios will be launching a new batch of animated adventures in the Spring or Summer.

When Could We Be Seeing The X-Men?

There’s a good chance the release date of X-Men ’97 will fall between between the May release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and the July release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Although there may be some crossover between the X-Men and the Multiverse in Ant-Man 3. It does not seem like Marvel is too worried with the animated film’s place in the MCU’s overarching storyline.

The ten-episode run is in line with other MCU animated programmes, such as 2021’s What If…?, which had nine episodes in its first season.

A quarter-century after the series ended, Marvel Studios will be able to pick up where it left off with its back catalog of more than 70 episodes from 1992 to 1996.

Several performers, such as Wolverine’s Cal Dodd, have already begun recording their lines for the revival, giving Marvel Studios plenty of time to finish the animation over the next 18 months.

As soon as a concrete release date is announced, fans will be eager to see what the Marvel Cinematic Universe does with the mutants, who will be joining the increasing roster of Marvel animated features.

As of now, filming on X-Men ’97 is underway, with an expected mid-2023 launch date set for the film’s Disney+ debut.
