Disney CEO Bob Iger has officially announced the making of Zootopia 2. While no official release date has been announced yet, fans can expect the sequel to come out in the near future.
Zootopia 1: Critical Acclaim And Relevant Themes
The original movie, Zootopia, was released in 2016 and received critical acclaim for its storytelling, animation, and themes. The story follows the journey of Judy Hopps, a rabbit who aims to become the first rabbit to join the police force. The movie features a talented voice cast that includes Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, and Jenny Slate. Directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, Zootopia tackled themes of race and cultural differences.
Zootopia+: A Spin-Off Show
Disney has also announced a spin-off show titled Zootopia+, which premiered in Fall 2022. The streaming series follows six separate stories that take place during the events of the first film.
When Is Zootopia 2 Coming Out?
Disney has not announced an official release date for Zootopia 2 yet. However, three potential release dates are Wednesday, November 27, 2024, Wednesday, November 26, 2025, and Wednesday, November 25, 2026. These dates fall a year apart, right before the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in the United States. It is expected that the sequel will be released on one of these dates. However, with Frozen 3 also in the works, it is uncertain which animated blockbuster will be released first.
Who’s Cast In Zootopia 2?
At the moment, no casting announcements have been made for the sequel. However, it is expected that Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde and Ginnifer Goodwin as Officer Judy Hopps will return in the upcoming movie. One can also imagine Disney bringing back directing duo Byron Howard and Rich Moore to helm the sequel.
Is Zootopia+ The Same As Zootopia 2?
Zootopia+ is a streaming anthology series that launched on the Disney+ service in November 2022. While the show continues elements from the original film, it is not Zootopia 2. Zootopia+ tells supplemental stories that take place during the events of the first film.
What Is Zootopia 2 Called?
Currently, Zootopia 2 does not have an official title. Given Disney’s track record of numbering its animated sequels (i.e. Frozen 2, Toy Story 4), it is likely that the sequel will be titled Zootopia 2. However, a subtitle is also a possibility.
Do Judy And Nick Have Kids In Zootopia 2?
After becoming close friends in the first movie, fans are wondering if the relationship between Judy and Nick has turned romantic since then, leading to the possibility of the pair having kids. However, co-director Rich Moore did not reveal whether the two have formed a romantic connection or not, stating that it will be a divisive topic among fans.
