Marvel’s Eternals gave light to a new Celestial named Arnhem. Towards the end of the movie, Arishem is seen drawing the Eternals away from Earth. But the question is, where does he take them? Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been fascinating. The franchise has been uniquely exploring the entertainment industry by tapping both the movies and TV series market.

While still expanding the vast undiscovered universes, Marvel also introduces new characters and heroes into the MCU. After the introduction of Shang-Chi in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Marvel has dynamically ushered an impressive team of heroes with Eternals.

Eternals – Storyline and ending

Eternals made way for director Chloé Zhao to make her MCU debut. The story follows a race called the Eternals, a team of superhuman beings created by the Celestials. The Eternals were sent to Earth centuries ago with the idea of protecting humankind. As time passed by, the team members parted ways to go on about their own individual lives. However, present-day, they team up again to fight against their evil counterparts, the Deviants, when the fear of a massive event called “The Emergence” dawns upon them.

The team constitutes of Sersi (Gemma Chan), Ikaris (Richard Madden), Sprite (Lia McHugh), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), Druig (Barry Keoghan), Gilgamesh (Don Lee), Thena (Angelina Jolie), and Ajak (Salma Hayek). As the movie advances, we see that not all these heroes stick up until the end. And Eternals concludes with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger, leaving the destiny of the three heroes still uncertain.

Towards the ending of the movie Eternals, we see Thena, Makkari, and Druig leave Earth. Phastos is seen bragging about having repaired Domo. The three fly off to discover other Eternals in the universe and tell them the truth about their origins and Arishem’s mission. Meanwhile, Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo decide to continue living on Earth. Sprite is also seen to have willingly transformed into a human.

In a scene, Sersi is seen taking a walk with Dane Whitman (Kit Harington). Right before Dane starts to reveal a big family secret to her, the Eternals’ creator, Arishem the Celestial (voiced by David Kaye), mightily kidnaps Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo. Arishem conveys to them his disappointment in being betrayed. But he has decided to be merciful by sparing humanity on the condition that he access Eternals’ memories to see if humans are worthy of life.

He promises to return for retribution before he is seen disappearing, having taken the three Eternals with him. Following this scene, the movie tells nothing more about where Arishem took the Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo. However, it can be assumed that they are all now in the World Forge.

Why it is likely for Arishem to have taken the Eternal to Planet Forge

The movie portrays how most of the Eternals had been living in a cloud of lies for centuries. They believed that their home was a planet called Olympia, and as promised by Arishem, they would return to their planet once they conquered their mission. But after the death of their leader Ajak, when Sersi poses as a successor to the title, she calls upon Arishem for a conversation. Through it, she realizes that Olympia does not exist. That the Eternals were created in World Forge, which makes it their “true home.”

Considering all these factors from the story, it would make sense for Arishem to take the remaining Eternals back to the World Forge. He probably does so, intending to access the memories they made on Earth. And based on these memories, Arishem will decide whether or not the human world is worth sparing after being betrayed by his own. There is also a high chance that Arishem might have flown to Eternals someplace else. But because the Eternals and the Celestials have just been adequately introduced to the MCU, it is too soon to tell for sure.

Another interesting arc is revealed through the abduction of Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo by the Celestial Arishem. It paves the way for the introduction of Eros (Harry Styles), who will play a fellow Eternal and brother of Thanos. In his brief appearance in the post-credits scene of Eternals, Eros is seen telling Thena, Makkari, and Druig that he knows where the others are.

In the coming future on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we might see the Eternals travel to the World Forge to rescue Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo. The audiences can also expect a confrontation between the team of Eternals and Arishem. However, there is a probability that part of the original team might be seen living on an entirely different planet.
