The worldwide release of NWH continues to cement its status as the most anticipated film of the past few years. And as expected, this movie is already making a big impression on the comic book community. This is all thanks to its many hidden Easter eggs and apparent references to previous Spider-Man films. These include the appearances of five villains and two Spider-Men.
Marvel Studios’ Phase 4 begins with this threequel. Three more sequels will follow previous MCU films from the Infinity Saga. If you do not know already, Phase 4 will continue till 2022. Before Chris Hemsworth brings down the thunder in Thor: Love and Thunder in July, Stephen Strange will go straight from NWH to The Multiverse of Madness.
Thor 4 has yet to reveal any specific plot details. This is aside from Jane Foster becoming the Mighty Thor and the team taking on Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher. NWH may have teased something fans can look forward to seeing in the sequel next year. And this is most certainly going to happen unexpectedly.
Spider-Man: No Way Home hinted at a possible plot point in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder with a brief scene. According to Reddit user u/KingEuronIIIGreyjoy, a news ticker banner at the bottom of one of the early news broadcasts about Peter Parker’s identity reveals, “Political turmoil in New Asgard as Z…” under the Spider-Man coverage.
In NWH, this message appeared for only a few seconds. However, it could have significant consequences in the fourth solo Thor movie. With the help of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor was seen leaving Earth with Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie as the new leader of New Asgard. After surviving the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, this message suggests that she may have to fight for her position as the ruler of her people.
Even though this message hasn’t been confirmed, the Asgardians and their leaders could be in for a lot of trouble. This is based on the characters involved in Love and Thunder.
In this cosmic Phase 4 outing, Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher is set to make his mark as a powerful villain. This likely means that he will be after gods like Thor. In addition to the MCU’s long-standing Asgardian prince, the letter “Z” brings to mind one other name.
In April 2021, Russell Crowe revealed that he was playing the Greek God Zeus. This could be one of many gods that appear in this exciting new film. Aside from Greeks and Asgardians, Love and Thunder could tackle cultures from Egyptians and Mayans.
Even if some of these gods are killed, they may still be able to make their way to New Asgard and challenge Valkyrie for the throne. However, there may be other factors at play. Thor: Ragnarok looks to have plenty of stories to tell as the God of Thunder returns to the MCU.
