Benedict Cumberbatch’s MCU adventure, “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” introduced audiences to a pivotal character, Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic, the leader of the Fantastic Four from Earth-838’s Illuminati. While this version of the character won’t lead the MCU’s Fantastic Four, John Krasinski’s portrayal left a lasting impression.
Rejected Designs Unveiled
Within the pages of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – The Art of the Movie” book, The Direct uncovered rejected costume designs for John Krasinski’s Mister Fantastic. These alternative designs offer intriguing glimpses into what could have been:
- Brighter, Livelier Blue:
A design inspired by the classic aesthetic of the character features Reed in a brighter, more vibrant shade of blue, giving the costume a lively appearance.
- Classic Blue Uniform:
One of the rejected designs presents Reed Richards in a simpler, all-blue uniform, providing a more straightforward take on the character’s attire.
- Two Shades of Classic Color:
This rejected design retains the classic getup but opts for two different shades of the character’s iconic color, deviating from the traditional blue and white combination.
- Adding Black Detailing:
Another iteration incorporates black detailing into the costume, breaking up the single blue color and adding depth to the design.
- The Chosen Modern Design:
Ultimately, Marvel Studios decided to go with a more contemporary design, featuring significant black accents, as seen in the final movie design.
The Future Of John Krasinski In The MCU
Following John Krasinski’s memorable appearance in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” fans have been eager to know if he will return to the MCU. However, it appears that any return is unlikely, at least in the near future. Krasinski mentioned in December 2022 that there have been no discussions about reprising his Marvel role.
Despite this, his wife, Emily Blunt, remains hopeful that Krasinski will have the opportunity to don the superhero suit once more. Given the current Multiversal focus of the MCU, there is potential for Krasinski to make a comeback in larger event crossover films like “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” or “Secret Wars.”
In the meantime, fans eagerly await casting announcements for the MCU’s main Reed Richards. Rumored actors include Adam Driver, Dev Patel, Matt Smith, and more. The full Fantastic Four cast is expected to be officially revealed once the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are resolved.
“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is currently available for streaming on Disney+, while “Fantastic Four” is set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025.
